We got together this past weekend for a family reunion. Grandpa Bill sure has a legacy to be proud of. We laughed (because who wouldn’t with this crew), we cried (there were moments where we missed those not with us anymore), and we cheered on the Twins (even if they did lose).

My dad always asked my mom to plant marigolds. Did

My dad always asked my mom to plant marigolds. Did he like them for their color? Were they his favorite? Or was he being practical in a sense of keeping the critters away. I’ll never know. But nevertheless I have six marigolds planted in the planters he helped install on my garage. They’re blooming now.

I also have marigolds as part of my memorial tattoo.

A friend told me a few times last year to do thing

A friend told me a few times last year to do things my dad would have enjoyed on those tough holidays. So, last weekend, I did something I’ve only ever dreamed about. Iowa Speedway in Newton hosted its inaugural NASCAR Cup Race as part of the NASCAR Summer Weekend. I was able to be a part of the action, taking photos as part of my job. And I know this is something my dad would have loved.

Seeing @korilately at @saintblondesalon has been a game changer for my skin. Never have I ever been able to keep up with a skincare routine for my face but this woman has done wonders and given me a simple easy down to earth routine that works.

This is one of the last candid shots that I took of my dad (napping with Heyden) when we were all together. And while I’ve got tears running down my face, I’m also smiling because that man sure did love to nap. The other photo is baby me asleep on dad. So I mean … 37 years of napping together. And yes, if the family was together you could always find someone tucked in with him if he was napping.

One of the things I miss the most and struggle with a lot is the fact that with dad we always felt safe. We could let down our walls and just be ourselves. We could close our eyes and just rest. Because dad was there. There hasn’t been much resting over the last nine months. I am sleeping better but there are times that I need that feeling of rest and have struggled to find it. Still trying to figure things out. And that’s okay.
